Meeting with poet and translator of The Lord of the Rings, Ihar Kulikoŭ

📅 When: April 11, 2026, at 2:00 PM

📍 Where: Skaryna Library

We will talk about the works of J. R. R. Tolkien in Belarusian translation. Why “Valadar” instead of “Uladar”? What do words like “naysmakuye” and “zbrayaruch” mean? Why might Maksim Haretski have appreciated this translation of the novel? What is alliterative poetry, and which of Tolkien’s poems do most translators tend to simplify? You will find out all this by joining the event.

At the end, there will be a poetic dialogue between Ihar Kulikou and Hanna Komar, where Ihar will present his new poetry collection, soon to be published in Warsaw.
