This year the library received a gift of 15 works by well-known Belarusian artists from a private collector. These include a series of panoramic landscapes and a still life by Vital Ćvirka, and avant-garde paintings by Artur Klinaŭ and Alaksiej Ždanaŭ.

The Skaryna Library holds a significant collection of works by artists of the Belarusian diaspora. It can now proudly present striking examples of art from the 1980s, created in Belarus.

The paintings were donated to the library by Iosif Levitan, a Belarusian collector from Miami. Other works from his collection have been donated to museums in the United States and to Belarusian diaspora organisations. We are deeply grateful to Mr Levitan for his generous gift and delighted that these unique works will now be accessible to visitors of the library and to a wider audience online.

You can read more about the collection and its description in Siarhiej Hareuski’s article.

The works can be viewed in person at the Skaryna Library — contacts and address.

The Skaryna Library’s collection exists thanks to the generosity of people like Mr Levitan. Support us — and these unique works will remain accessible to all.
