Беларуская бібліятэка ў Лёндане захоўвае цікавыя і каштоўныя рукапісы Янкі Купалы, асобнікі ягоных самых раньніх выданьняў і арыгінальныя ілюстрацыі мастака Барыса Заборава да твораў песьняра. У гонар 140-годзьдзя з дня нараджэньня Янкі Купалы бібліятэка ўпершыню выставіла ўсе гэтыя скарбы разам у рамках выставы, падрыхтаванай разам з музэем Янкі Купалы ў Менску.
The Belarusian Library in London preserves valuable manuscripts of Janka Kupała (1882-1942), one of the greatest Belarusian poets, copies of his earliest books and original illustrations to Kupała’s poems by a well-known book illustrator, Barys Zaboraŭ. To celebrate Kupała’s 140th anniversary, the Library exhibited all these treasures together for the first time. The exhibition was prepared in collaboration with the Janka Kupała Museum in Minsk.

9 ліпеня 2022 г. у бібліятэцы адбылася куратарская экскурсія д-кі Караліны Мацкевіч па выставе. Для тых, хто ня змог патрапіць на выставу ў Лёндане, ейныя галоўныя пэрліны цяпер даступныя на электроннай выставе на сайце бібліятэкі. Асаблівая падзяка за дапамогу ў падрыхтоўцы матэрыялаў выставы былой дырэктарцы менcкага музэю Алене Ляшковіч.
Экскурсію працягнулі надзвычай цікавыя сустрэчы з Майклам Сагацісам, які вёў перамовы аб прэм’еры ў Вялікабрытаніі фільму “Купала”, і акторам Мікалаем Шэстакам, які граў галоўную ролю ў фільме. Беларусьфільм адмовіўся ад прэм’еры фільму за тры дні да заплянаванага дня і стужка дагэтуль схаваная ад гледача. Пірацкія вэрсіі ейнага чарнавога варыянту цяпер пашыраюцца ў інтэрнэце.
The library launched the exhibition with a curator’s tour by Dr Karalina Matskevich on 9 July 2022. For those who cannot make it to the exhibition in London, its main treasures are now available in a digital exhibition on the Library’s website. Our special thanks to the former (dismissed for political reasons) director of the Janka Kupała Museum, Alena Lyashkovich, for all the invaluable help.
The tour continued with exciting and insightful Q&As with Michael Sagatis who was involved in negotiating the Kupała movie (2020) premiere in Britain, and with actor Nikolay Shestak who played the Belarusian poet in the film. The Belarusfilm studio refused to premiere the film three days before the scheduled release, and the movie is still being hidden from the viewer. Pirated versions of its early cut have been circulating on the internet.
