Guy Picarda, an Anglo-French lawyer and musicologist, and a researcher of Belarusian culture, died on 20 April 2007.
Picarda had a deep interest in church choral singing and once decided to organise a concert, for which he was advised to include Belarusian music in the programme.
Belarus — a region of intersecting cultural traditions, including Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Greek Catholic, Jewish, and Tatar — inspired in Picarda a lifelong fascination. In order to study Belarusian culture, he and Auberon Herbert founded the Anglo-Belarusian Society in 1954. Between 1961 and 1970, Picarda taught music and singing at the Belarusian St Cyril of Turau School in London.
